Trista Allen

Tristah is 22 years old and is a Trainee Electrical Engineer for Xstrata Coal. Tristah had both eyes treated with laser refractive surgery in August 2011. Tristah is now 6/4 unaided which means she now sees better than 20/20!

What was your main frustration with glasses and contact lenses prior to surgery?

To be honest, I didn’t mind wearing glasses. But it was always very difficult to play sport and frustrating to have to order in special prescription safety glasses for work all the time due to the harsh environment I work in.

How has the surgery changed your working day?

I now no longer need special safety glasses. I can also drive on site and see what people point out on the horizon.

I don’t have to worry about taking glasses on and off when I switch between the computer and going out to do hands on work.

What would you say to others working in similar industries and experiencing the same problems that you did prior to surgery?

I would recommend having a consultation at the very least. My vision is amazing now and I did not realise how fast nor how extensive the improvements would be.

The surgery was virtually pain free and I suffered almost no pain during the recovery period.

Did you experience a ‘wow’ factor after surgery?

Yes, immediately once I left the centre and got into the car, I was surprised I could read road signs. I didn’t realize how much I did not actually see prior to the surgery.

Have there been any other unexpected benefits in your everyday life outside of your work environment?

I was not expecting to have 20/20 vision let alone have it one week later!

What made you finally come in & why did you choose HLV?

I am getting married at the end of November and I wanted to be able to see my Husband-to-be at the end of the aisle.

Did you feel HLV delivered a complete understanding of the pros and cons of laser refractive surgery?

Most definitely; the staff and the video were both very informative.
