At Hunter Laser Vision
we offer two refractive procedures. All surgery is performed after instilling
local anaesthetic drops in each eye. LASIK
is a technique where a corneal flap is created by a surgical device called a Microkeratome.
During the surgery the flap is laid back and the laser ablation is applied to
the exposed corneal bed. The flap is then returned to its normal position and
is settled immediately without the need for sutures. The surgery takes approximately
10 minutes each eye. You will leave our rooms with what most people describe as
Vaseline vision; this clears within a few hours. PRK
is a technique performed where a specialised brush tip removes the epithelium
or surface cells. The laser ablation is then applied to the corneal surface. A
contact lens is fitted for 72 hours until the surface cells have healed. You do
not need to attend this lens; it is left in place and removed by your surgeon
or optometrist approximately 72 hours after surgery. Patients
sometimes experience slight discomfort in the first 24 hours following PRK surgery.
However, during this short period we manage the discomfort with some strong analgesia
and eye drops. It is our experience that the outcome far outweighs the discomfort.
PRK has been performed around the world since 1986. It
is an excellent non-invasive procedure suitable for low degrees of myopia with
or without small amounts of astigmatism. At Hunter Laser Vision our results for
PRK have been excellent
Laser refractive surgery is not a
painful procedure to endure. The majority of people describe a slight scratchy
sensation as if an eyelash was in your eye |
